ACReSAL to support in rebuilding Alau Dam and other Environmental interventions in Borno.

The National Project Coordinator Agro Climatic Resilience in Semi Arid Landscape (ACReSAL), Abdulhamid Umar says they will conduct a geo technical test on Alau Dam with a view to rebuilding it.

The National Project Coordinator ACReSAL stated this while speaking to Journalist at Alau Dam in Alau Community of Jere local government of Borno State at their visit for on the spot assessment.

He explained that what he saw at the side of the Dam was largely under reported by Media especially on the collapse of the dyke that culminated into the flooding and overwhelmed by the fertility of the ground as well as the potentiality for both irrigation and rainy agricultural activities.

Mr Abdulhamid Umar said he and his team were there in the Borno State for the assessment of many other environmental hazard as a result occurred due to the recent flooding which he assured to support Borno State, saying as it is part of the mandate of ACReSAL across the 19 Northern States of the Federation.

The World Bank Task Team Leader for ACReSAL Project and a Senior Environmental Specialist, Dr Joy Iganya Agene noted that their visit will facilitate the quantum of interventions to the affected structures and that environmental pollutions witnessed recently shall be addressed.

She explained that World Bank was a partner at implementing the ACReSAL projects, reiterated that the intervention shall also avert escalation of future floodings.

The ACReSAL team were led on the visit to the side of Alau Dam by Borno State Commissioner of Environment, Engr. Emet Mohammed Kois and provided a highlights of the disaster on the Dam for the Visitors.

The ACReSAL team also visited other structures affected by the flooding which include Fo’ori and Moro Moro bridges that have been cut off by the flood.

The team were also at the Sanda Kyarimi Park Zoo which was submerged by the flood as its witnesses the disappearance of substantial part of the games but was reconstructed and the animals were largely recaptured back.
