The Borno State Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) project held a pre-disbursement engagement session with the community of Kaga Local Government Area of Borno State regarding the Community Revolving Fund (CRF).
The event took place at the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) hall in Maiduguri.
Mr. Ayuba Peter, the Project Coordinator for Borno ACReSAL, represented by Shehu Yakubu Gana, the project accountant, welcomed the Local Government Project Management Committee (LGPMC) and emphasized the importance of this engagement in helping participants understand the CRF. He explained that the CRF operates as a non-free loan aimed at promoting self-reliance among farmers, assuring them of its relevance to smart agriculture and improving livelihoods.
During the session, Mr. Bukar Madu Goba, the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, highlighted the initiative’s impact in supporting farmers and vulnerable communities. He assured attendees that all Community Interest Groups would undergo validation to ensure that the right beneficiaries are selected for the CRF.
The Chairman of Kaga Local Government, Honourable Zanna Lawan Ajimi, expressed gratitude to ACReSAL for the initiative and assured the attendees that the funds would be recovered responsibly. He appealed for more communities to be included in the CRF to extend its benefits.
Secretary of Kaga Local Government, Zanna Mai, thanked ACReSAL and the World Bank for involving their locality in the CRF initiative and promised full support for its implementation.
The CRF Committee is set to continue its engagement by visiting Ngamdu and Uba Askira local governments for similar discussions.
The event also featured an interactive session where participants raised inquiries regarding the loan recovery process, which were addressed adequately by the project representatives.
