His Royal Highness, the Emir of Shani LG, Muhammadu Nasiru Mai lafiya made the assertion when the Borno ACReSAL team in collaboration with its NGO paid him a visit in his palace.
He lamented on the devastating effects of erosion which is threatening their area over the years and therefore seeks ACReSAL to come to their aid in tackling erosion bedevilling their area.
The Royal Father thanked the Governor of Borno State, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum and assured to support ACReSAL project to achieve its objective in Borno state.
The Executive Director of Global Environmental Responds Initiative, Dr Ngare Dogo who is the FONGO consultant earlier said Shani is one among the Local Governments selected to provide 25 Hectares of land for the plantation of woodlots in order to mitigate climate change and part of the sensitisation visit was also to inaugurate the Local Government Project Management Committee (LGPMC) members who will become implementation partners of ACReSAL in the locality.
In his goodwill message, the project Coordinator Mr Ayuba Peter represented by the project Engineer, Engr. Babagana Ladan said ACReSAL is a 6-years project which will help reduce the vulnerability of millions of the extreme poor people in the Northern Nigeria, strengthening their own roles in line with achieving environmental sustainability.
He further said the Local Government project management committee-LGPMC is a very important committee from the grassroot and called on them to be dedicated to discharge their duties effectively.
While inaugurating the committee, the Chairman of Shani LG, Honourable Prof. Jibrin Musa Dibal represented by the Vice Chairman, Ilyasu Mohammed said they are happy with ACReSAL project which in no distance time will better their life.
He therefore charged the committee to be diligent and work as a team to achieve the desired objectives of the project.
The Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, Bukar Madu Goba congratulated the new members of the LGPMC and requested them to cooperate and collaborate with staff of the SPMU so that together, they achieve the overall objectives of the ACReSAL in the area successfully.
The livelihood officer Yafati Mustapha also stated that part of ACReSAL project is to make sure that people are lifted out of poverty, adding that women are going to be considered foremost among the project beneficiaries.
