FAO high level team is making strides in climate smart land restoration in Borno State.

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) high-level team is making significant progress in climate-smart land restoration efforts in Borno State.

Led by Engineer Precious Agbesor, the team visited the Mafa local government area as part of broader restoration initiatives.

Upon arrival, a warm welcome awaited the FAO climate-smart restoration team, which is collaborating with the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-arid Landscapes (ACReSAL).

During the visit, the Project Coordinator of Borno ACReSAL, Mr. Ayuba Peter, represented by FAO desk officer Bukar Madu Goba, addressed the local government chairman, emphasizing the purpose of their visit: to inspect previous FAO initiatives and encourage further local efforts.

Speaking also, the FAO team led by
Engineer Precious Agbesor expressed gratitude for the warm reception, highlighting their focus on evaluating the outcomes of the dalfino technology previously implemented in the area.

In response, the Executive Chairman, Honourable Sunusi Mustapha, pledged his administration’s full support for the restoration initiatives, thanking FAO and ACReSAL for their commitment to enhancing community resilience.

The FAO team toured a key restoration site where neem trees have been planted across 159 hectares.

They expressed satisfaction with the progress made by the Borno FAO team and commended the enthusiasm of community participants and the support from local government leadership.

The FAO emphasized the importance of community-driven solutions in effectively restoring degraded land.

This collaborative effort showcases the potential for sustainable land restoration that aligns with climate-smart practices, benefiting both the environment and local communities.
