Project Overview:
The Borno State Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) project has made a significant impact in Dusman village, located in the Jere Local Government Area. By providing 20 tube wells, along with seedlings for irrigation farming, ACReSAL has transformed the agricultural landscape and improved the livelihoods of the community’s farmers.
Community Benefits:
The introduction of these tube wells has not only provided a reliable water source but has also enabled farmers to cultivate crops that were previously difficult to grow due to water scarcity. This has created a ripple effect in the community, enhancing food security and stimulating economic growth.
Testimonies from Beneficiaries:
Umar Modu Gudusu expressed his gratitude to ACReSAL for the drillings of the tube wells and the provision of quality seeds. He highlighted his success in cultivating tomatoes, wheat, and guinea corn, stating, “Through the use of the tube well, I have harvested significantly more tomatoes and wheat than before.”
- Reflecting on the previous year, he noted, “Last year, without a tube well, my yield was minimal. Thanks to ACReSAL’s support, my harvest has greatly improved.”
Bala Sarki:
- Bala shared his excitement about the assistance from ACReSAL, emphasizing the substantial increase in his wheat production. “With the tube well, I harvested five bags of wheat this season, compared to only two bags last year,” he said.
- He further mentioned the variety of crops he has been able to grow, stating, “I have also been able to cultivate onions and other vegetables, significantly boosting my income.” Bala expressed a hope for continued support from ACReSAL, stating, “Irrigation work is vital for us, and we look forward to expanding our farming activities with further assistance.”
